Some Things Like a Hot Summer

Planted quite close together, and most of them grew straight down -- the preferred result.

These dahlias are moving out front, but I can't believe I'll have to dig them.  What are the odds of THAT happening yearly?  Maybe a foot of straw mulch.  Will research.

Sunflowers

These sunflowers are a mystery.  Everything in the garden that is alive has been watered deeply this year.  I have NEVER watered these sunflowers, but they are the tallest they've ever been.

Goats loved to eat these, and the cows will condescend to do so.  So, perhaps I should encourage these out in the fields for forage in times of drought.
